Ulrike Arnold

"Then, there was a big bang! And I realised that the earth, in her natural element, would give me my way of expression, my canvas and my colours."

Ulrike Arnold has travelled throughout the world to work at remote sites often associated with ritual or magical properties. Her materials are the stones and earth she finds there. These are applied, often by hand, to create rock paintings in situ, or mixed with a transparent binder to produce works on canvas. These pictures can be read not only as psychograms of the artist herself but also as travelogues, visual diaries, and abstract portraits of remote locations.
