Paula Castillo
“The man-made microcosms combined
with the expansive natural environment are the catalyst
for my critical exploration of the systems and spaces
we inhabit; places our own lives depend on… My
work is concerned with bridging the new field of Complexity
Science, with culture and art in order to understand
and visualize our perceptions and connections with
our place on earth.”
Paula Castillo, born
in 1961, is a native New Mexican and a full-time sculptor.
Her work is made primarily from reclaimed salvaged scraps
of steel, giving new life to these elements in quite
unique and at times rather mysterious sculptures.
Castillo has received numerous
awards and public commissions, including:
Fine Work Prize, Public Art International Competition
in Tokyo, 2004
The Arroyo Project, 2004-05
The Acclaimed Artist Series from New Mexico Arts in Public
Places, 2004
International Sculpture Award, 2000
The National Endowment for the Arts
The National Science Foundation Fellowship.
