Zachariah Rieke
“For me painting is a metaphysical pursuit
driven by the search for truth and beauty. My work
is the product of belief rather than irony. Authenticity
is of utmost importance. For these “old school” attitudes
I make no apologies.”
Zachariah Rieke has
been painting for 45 years. His work is represented
in many collections, public and private, is illustrated
in various books, and is widely known for its constant
exploration. His most recent series involves a fluid
use of high-key color - a reflection of his intense
interest in chaos theory and the natural world. He
and his wife, Gail, married for almost forty years,
have three grown children. In addition to his own work,
Zachariah and Gail have worked together and established
a collaborative voice which earned them a Retrospective
at the Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, 1999.
Rieke’s work has been collected
by the Museum of Fine Arts (Santa Fe, New Mexico), the
University of Florida, the Warner Brothers collection,
Mountain Bell, the Princess Evangaline Zalstem-Zalesky
Collection, and the Albuquerque Museum.
